Turning a head using vector graphics is not all that difficult, but we did not want to use vector
drawn faces. Even Disney never got that to work on anything but cartoon animals, so we considered our
chance of success rather slim. We liked painted faces much better, but while they are easy enough to
morph in 2D, it is not at all simple to do a 3D motion like turning the head.
We tried repeatedly to apply the morph technique to the turning head problem, but we never got it to
work and that played a large part in our decision to move away from 2D animation. Here is an example
of a test spanning only a fraction of a second, but even that never worked to our satisfaction.
